FaceTime Icon

Early tests have indicated that FaceTime for OSX works already very well in its current beta. If you would like to call another iOS device from your Mac, however, note that iOS 4.1 is required for a successful connection. If you try to call a device with iOS 4.01 installed you will be presented with the following error message: "User needs to update to the latest version of FaceTime." So go grab your copy of FaceTime and be sure to update your iPod Touch/iPhone to iOS 4.1. … [Read more...]

Apple Introduces ‘Software Reinstall Drive’ for MacBook Air

Apple Software Reinstall Drive

During today's media event Apple introduced an abundance of new and upgraded Apple products. During the one and a half hour keynote, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs presented the audience with an OSX 10.7 Lion sneak peak, as well as the Mac App Store. In addition FaceTime Beta for OSX, an updated iLife '11, and an all new MacBook Air are available as of today. Steve Jobs, didn't mention one very interesting detail, however; the 'Software Reinstall Drive' that is detailed on the Air's tech spec section. The 'Software Reinstall Drive' looks like a very thin, and apple-styled, USB drive that comes loaded … [Read more...]

WordPress App Updated – Sucks Slightly Less

WordPressTrashIcon

The WordPress App for iOS has never been a winner. Just read the reviews. For everything it lacks, it does have one important feature that the authors of this blog use frequently: uploading photos. Here is how I use it (quoted from this earlier article): "I used the previously mentioned crappy WordPress app to make a draft post, and attached the images I wanted to that draft. The pictures got uploaded to my site, and I was then able to go back to Safari and select them from the “Media Gallery” and insert them." This image uploading feature was broken in an update earlier this month. Any … [Read more...]

Breaking: ‘GreenPois0n’ iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Released by Chronic Dev Team

greenpoison-logo

The Chronic Dev Team just announced the release of their iOS 4.1 jailbreak labeled 'greenpois0n'. The jailbreak uses the same exploit which was exposed by iPhone Hacker Geohot a few days ago but promises greater stability. 'Greenpois0n' works on firmware 4.1 only, so if you care about preserving your iPhone 4 baseband (to unlock) it is strongly recommended that you use TinyUmbrella to upgrade your firmware in order to preserve the original iPhone 4 baseband. Currently 'greenpois0n' is only available for windows but @p0sixninja promises that a mac version will follow as soon as some technical … [Read more...]

Breaking: LimeRa1n Jailbreak Released Amidst Hacking Drama

photo 2-2

As reported a few days ago the Chronic Dev Team was set to release a new jailbreak labled 'GreenPois0n' for iOS 4.1 on Sunday 10/10/2010 at 10:10am. Shortly after the announcement iPhone Hacker Geohot returned to the jaibreaking scene with a vengeance, however, stating that he will release his own jailbreak labeled 'LimeRa1n' the following day. It was quickly confirmed that Geohot's jailbreak would use a different bootrom exploit from the Chronic Dev Team, hence exposing two exploits to Apple at the same time, possible narrowing down future jailbreaking efforts for the next generation of iDevices. … [Read more...]

Breaking: Restoring Apple TV Through Micro-USB Confirmed! [Jailbreak Heaven]

Apple TV Connected to iTunes via Micro USB

It has just been confirmed by twitter user @StealthBravo that the second generation Apple TV can be restored in iTunes—just like any iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad—when connected to a computer via micro USB cable. This means that the jailbreak community may soon be able to offer us tools, as they currently do for other iOS devices, to save SHSH blobs, jailbreak the Apple TV, and install 3rd party software. Maybe an app store for Apple TV may come sooner than any of us may have expected after all. The hunt for Apple TV's DFU mode has already begun and we will keep you updated as the … [Read more...]

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Leaked to Torrent Sites

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Boxes

As reported by 9to5Mac earlier this week 'Office 2011 for Mac' was made available for download on Microsofts volume licensing servers. Microsoft Volume License customers have been able to download the much anticipated update—which also includes Microsoft Outlook for the very first time—ever since. The software is not scheduled to hit store shelves until late October. Unsurprisingly it appears, that the file has now been leaked to popular file sharing websites including thepiratebay.com and kickasstorrents.com as indicated by the screenshot below. We'd like to remind you that we do … [Read more...]

iOS 4.2 To Support System Wide Brightness Control for iPad

iOS 4.2 with brightness control on iPad

As noted by Macrumors.com Apple today pushed out the first beta of iOS 4.2 to the developers. iOS 4.2 will be released to the public in November with announced features such as AirPrint (wireless printing), AirPlay (wireless media streaming), as well as Multitasking and Folder support for the iPad. In addition, MacRumors posted the following screenshot which illustrates that screen orientation locking on the iPad is now accomplished within the multitasking tray instead of the dedicated switch on the side of the device (which defaults to mute the iPad with iOS 4.2). What we found most … [Read more...]

iPod Shuffle Teardown: Battery Technology Limiting Factor of Future Generations?

Apple iPod Shuffle teardown battery

As usual, iFixit has a great teardown of Apple's 4th generation iPod Shuffle. Everything is packed extremely tightly which apparently made it pretty tough for the company to open up the little guy below. What I find most interesting about this teardwon, however, is how much space the low-capacity battery (with a listed capacity of just 0.19 Whr) actually takes up inside of the Shuffle. The entire bottom half of the device is taken up by the battery. How much further do you think Apple can take the current trend of shrinking their previous designs (either in height, width, or thinness) … [Read more...]
