iPhone: YouTube, Dock, Email Signature

What a great day to be an iPhone fanatic. A new application for the iPhone that will stream YouTube content has been revealed. And the new iPhone dock has been exposed as well as an iPhone email signature. Let’s break it down:

YouTube on the iPhone

In cooperation with YouTube Apple has developed a 12th application for the iPhone that will stream YouTube videos live over a Wi-Fi or Edge network.

A new Apple-designed application on iPhone will wirelessly stream YouTube’s content to iPhone over Wi-Fi or EDGE networks and play it on iPhone’s stunning 3.5 inch display.

On June 29th, 10,000 videos will be available in the new H.264 codec for both the iPhone and Apple TV with more content being added every week. The complete YouTube library is expected to be complete by fall. Apple claims that the H.264 codec will guarantee for both longer battery life and better video quality.

To achieve higher video quality and longer battery life on mobile devices, YouTube has begun encoding their videos in the advanced H.264 format, and iPhone will be the first mobile device to use the H.264-encoded videos. Over 10,000 videos will be available on June 29, and YouTube will be adding more each week until their full catalog of videos is available in the H.264 format this fall.

Take a look at the demo here.

iPhone Dock Revealed

Without much fanfare Apple also unveiled the iPhone dock in its picture gallery today. The dock looks very similar to the iPod docks, however, features a semi-open front supposedly so users can access the home button while being connected to their computer.

ThinkSecret reports that the iPhone dock will also feature a charging port for Apple’s bluetooth headset. This rumor, however, has not been confirmed with Apple.

IPhone Email Signature

If all of the above wasn’t quite yet enough for you maybe you will like the tidbit that TUAW noticed earlier during the day. According to one of their readers, Apple is taking a page from Blackberry’s book by adding a unique signature at the end of each email sent from the iPhone.

While composing an email the iPhone will automatically inset the signature “sent from my iPhone” at the bottom of the message much like the Blackberry adds “sent from my blackberry.”

Let’s just hope this is an optional feature that can be turned off if necessary.
