After the annual Apple-Quiet-Before-The-Storm you’re about to be flooded with Apple news during the next couple of days. His Stevieness is set to take the stage at Moscone West in San Francisco on Monday and give his keynote speech at 10am PST in front of the mac developer community.
Without any further ado, here are TAP’s official WWDC predictions:
Philipp’s Predictions:
Full Leopard Preview: Not much of a prediction, since the Jobs himself said so some time ago, however, it will be nice to at least get one prediction right.
Upgraded iLife and iWork: This one is usually reserved for MacWorld in January. Neither one of them has seen an update for more than 16 months [usually 12], however, so the suits are long overdue. A little more risky to predict: iLife will be integrated into Leopard from the get-go.
Substantial .Mac Upgrades: As I’ve already predicted two weeks ago, .Mac will see substantial upgrades. Possible even integration with Google. Jobs himself hinted at this during his D5 interview.
A company can’t be good at everything and we need to partner with people who are good at certain things. [In regards to Google Maps] We are not as good in certain areas as other people are, so we would like to partner with them.
One More Thing: At the end of his keynote Steve Jobs will announce one more thing. A not yet released feature about the iPhone. Which one? Who do you think I am? A visionary?
So yes, my predications are rather, let’s say careful. Since this is a developers conference I am simply not expecting any big surprises other than some cool Leopard features. Maybe I’ll be surprised.
On to…
Steve’s Predictions:
In order to distance myself from the group, I will bypass the ordain selections by my co-blogger, and might go slightly out on a limb.
No ZFS in OSX: I will go against the grain and boldly predict that Apple has in fact been developing their own file system for Leopard. After all, with the current happenings between Microsoft and the open source community, it seems that adding one more open source piece of code to OSX might make Apple and Microsoft legally married.
New iLife App: The the suite has been around for four years, with iWeb joining the party in 2006, and the time has come for a new addition. My prediction: an Aperture companion to compete with Photoshop. Of course, every prior edition has been announced at Macworld, so the chances this coming true are about as likely as Philipp’s prediction above.
Live Appearance by Mac and PC, and Bill Gates: This one is pretty simple. John Hodgman and Justin Long will come out and do a skit with Bill and Steve.
iPhone SDK: I’ve said it before, but I want it on record. Philipp and I are in stiff competition for the highest number of accurate predictions, so I need at least one item on my list that might actually happen.
So there you have it! We shall see in MERE HOURS!
My predictions:
some iPhone features that were previously unreleased
new UI in leopard
steve pokes fun at John Mayer
