Jobs: iPhone Will Turn Apple Stores Into Madhouse

Steve Jobs With iPhoneThe Huffington Post secured an interview opportunity with Steve Jobs right after his appearance at the ‘All Things Digital’ Conference last wednesday. In the interview, Jobs cautions his customers to purchase an iPhone at Apple’s own brick and mortar stores during the gadgets initial launch period.

“Don’t go to an Apple store,” Jobs said. “It will be a madhouse there. People will be lined up around the block, sleeping on the sidewalk to get one. Go to an AT&T/Cingular store. Most people don’t know that they will be selling them too.”

People sleeping in front of the Apple Store to get themselves an iPhone? Who would do such thing? (Okay, okay… we’re busted….) Seriously though, this sounds as if Apple is expecting demand to outstrip initial supply by far. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, however, we won’t know for sure until Apple releases more details regarding the initial production capacity of the phone.

All we can suggest to you at this point: Head out and get your sleeping bags early before there’s none left of those…

Update 5:15pm: MacNN reports that the Apple CEO might have been misquoted by the Huffington Post. No official word yet.
