Steve Jobs and Bill Gates Meet For Historic Interview – Video Online

It was a meeting of grand scale. If not historical. For the first time since 24 years, two of the most influential minds of the computer industry met for an interview with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. Many believed this would be a meeting of rivals; an argument between two polarizing philosophies. Instead it turned out to be a meeting between old pals who understand and respect each other’s place in the computer sphere. Even share a fair amount of history with each other.

Together, they reminisced in nostalgia about the beginning of the computer area and each others influences on the opponent. Not even the recent “I’m a Mac” campaign, brought up by Kara Swisher, can stir up an argument. Bill laughs it off, while Steve suddenly becomes very interested in his hands, all at the same a guilty grin spreading across his face. And in all honesty, the pair of them in some way do resemble the exaggerated caricatures of PC and Mac. One in Jeans, tennis-shoes and the trademark black turtleneck, the other with a white, tucked in shirt and black polished leather shoes. Adorable.

Only once or twice is there a hint of clashing opinions; mainly when it comes to the different philosophies of providing an all in one product experience a la Apple or partnering with multiple hardware manufacturers a la Microsoft. But in the end they both arrive at a common denominator: Both believe in the PC. That is, a future of a home-computer, that will affront the attack of online services and stick around for the next decades to come.

The seven part video-interview series, which I highly recommend for an insight into the minds of two of the greatest leaders alive, as well as a humorous stride down memory lane, is available now at the ‘All Things Digital’ website for your viewing pleasure.
